Location
Wander through Atholwood’s 2.2 acres of landscaped gardens to take in magnificent views of the Tasman Bay and its mountainous background. It’s all ideally situated on a quiet peninsula between Nelson City and the Abel Tasman National Park, meaning you’ll be able to sample both outdoor activities and cultural gems. Tuck into fine cuisine, tour local wineries and browse the arts and crafts on offer before getting stuck into the fresh air delights of the region’s numerous national parks.
Accommodation
Three luxurious bred and breakfast suites make up the main accommodation, each realised in clean lines and contemporary furnishings. They also all come with picture-perfect views that range from Waimea Estuary to Nelson City, best enjoyed from the designer leather chairs or private balcony. The en suites are equally considered, featuring underfloor heating, fine toiletries and separate baths. Lastly, there’s a self-contained cottage that caters to parties both large and small, featuring a private patio, garden and barbecue area along with a full kitchen.
Dining
Sarah and Ian are the perfect hosts, cooking up delicious breakfasts. There’s a varied menu with plenty of fresh options available; however, it’s Sarah’s tailor-made omelettes that stand out. Come the afternoon, you’ll also be treated to homemade cakes. For lunch and dinner, the Cowdrey Suite and the cottage come with kitchens so you make full use of the excellent local produce. Alternatively, you’ll find plenty of dining options within easy reach, ranging from fine dining to artisan breweries.
Facilities
Despite its bijoux sizing – the B&B features just three suites and the cottage – there’s plenty on offer. Relax in the saltwater pool, lie back on the sun beds or unwind in the spa tub on the large private deck. You’ll also have the chance to indulge in that great New Zealand tradition – the barbecue. Cookout facilities here come complete with sea views.
