Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge, Bell Gorge

Location

Along one of Australia’s most scenic outback routes – the Gibb River Road – this lodge enjoys an enviable position on a prime Aboriginal-owned site. The camp is surrounded by undulating red rock formations and dense bushland making a stay at Bell Gorge a truly immersive experience.

Here, you’ll camp just a stone’s throw away from the tiered waterfalls and stunning walkways that make the gorge an idyllic spot for swimming, photography and birdwatching. From the lodge you can explore the wilds of Kimberley and its coloured ranges, deep rock pools and tumbling waterfalls.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in luxury tented cabins complete with spacious front verandahs. From your armchair on the deck, take in the vivid colours of the bush and its wildlife under the impressive Kimberley sky. Tents also come with large private en suite bathrooms and generously sized beds making your stay in this inhospitable climate surprisingly comfortable.

Dining

A three-course dinner and breakfast is included with any stay at the lodge. In the morning, choose from a selection of hot and cold dishes with particularly good coffee on offer. For dinner, while you can meet with the chef to discuss any preferences, there is an excellent array – especially considering the remoteness of the location – of dishes on offer. Think carefully grilled barramundi on a bed of mashed potato with fresh vegetable side. Fully licensed, a range of premium beer and wines are on hand to compliment your food.

Facilities

Dedicated hosts can educate you on everything from the unique geography of the region to the cultural significance of its features to the nearby Iminitji Aboriginal community where you can visit their newly opened art centre. Nearby, there’s a host of other gorges to explore with picnics under paperbark trees to be had, ancient marine fossils to be tracked down and freshwater crocodiles to be spotted. In the evenings, guests gather around the campfire to swap adventure stories and share a drink.
