Location
Just a short drive from the main entrance to Yala National Park, the Cinnamon Wild is perfectly located to wonder at the wildlife within, and this proximity means little time is wasted at dawn or dusk travelling to and from park’s rich interior. The hotel is also very close to the Indian Ocean, so warm seas and cooling coastal breezes are all part of the experience. The world heritage city of Galle is a short drive west, while the popular surf resort of Arugam Bay is even closer.
Accommodation
Two accommodation styles reflect the variety available in the region. Guests searching for a classic safari experience should choose the Jungle Chalets, hidden away in the forest, their subtle and simple design blending nicely with the surrounding flora. The other option, closer to the sea, is stilted Beach Chalets, raised to offer impressive ocean views.
Dining
The resort’s main restaurant, Tuskers, allows you to sample the aromas of cinnamon, coconut, cardamom and the rest of the heady masala that makes Sri Lankan cuisine so enticing. There are also plenty of Western options to choose from. Two bars serve cocktails, fine wines, cold beers and snacks, and it’s impossible to tire of the sunset views from the rooftop Peacock Bar.
Facilities
Most activities on offer at the Cinnamon Wild involve getting out into the national park and being in nature – and in this respect the facilities are second to none. Guided walks and jeep safaris are easily arranged, and so are trips to Situlpawwa, a rock temple in the park dating back over two thousand years.
