Location

New Zealand’s Bay of Islands is a maritime playground of turquoise waters peppered with nearly 150 perfectly formed islands. It’s the idyllic setting for this luxury hideaway, perched on a valley ridgeline on a carpeted peninsula. Each individual villa is carefully positioned to maximise sea views while maintaining a sense of luxurious escapism. In fact, it’s a sort of private island experience, despite the historic village of Russell being just a couple of minutes away. To explore, guests have complimentary use of the site’s professional quality mountain bikes while horse treks, charter boat fishing and helicopter flights let you explore further.

Accommodation

Eagles Nest comprises five uniquely designed villas; choose between swooping aerofoils, gabled cathedrals, cutting-edge modernism, timber temples and sunrise decks. And, although each is utterly individual, there are a few things in common. Each commands superb Bay of Islands views, features heated Jacuzzis and is a true luxury apartment spread across multiple bedrooms; there’s everything from home theatres and gourmet kitchens to private gyms and outdoor fireplaces. All but one also comes with an infinity edge swimming, overlooking the bay. Lastly, depending on your choice, you’ll have access to cellared wines, a Porsche Cayenne and champagne. Personal trainers, butlers and chauffeurs are available upon request.

Dining

Dining at Eagles Nest is an integral part of the experience. While you can cook for yourself, we recommend making use of the talented team of personal chefs. Simply choose from a menu that showcases the finest in New Zealand produce and your resident chef will prepare it at your villa. The barbecue is particularly good, featuring such delights as freshly shucked oysters and grilled beef fillet. Wash it down with a vintage from the Northlands’ best wineries. Breakfasts are a similarly indulgent affair with highlights that included chorizo and bacon hash served with green onion and house made tomato relish. If you’re heading out, consider ordering one of gourmet hampers or stopping off at the nearby farmers’ markets.

Facilities

Considering the amenities of your self-contained villa – pools, Jacuzzi, sun loungers et al – it’s going to be hard to tear yourself away from your personal relaxation. But, if you manage, you’ll be treated to a private beach and a wide range of bookable activities. There’s everything from sky diving and parasailing to helicopter-accessed golf courses and horse rides that bring you between beaches and volcanoes.
