First introductions are made in your private cabin. And what a welcome it is, with inlaid detailing, cherry-wood panelling and rich embroidery all dressed in vintage oriental extravagance. And, with picture windows, it’s the perfect place to sip a coffee or something chilled as Southeast Asia slips by. Each morning, you’ll be treated to a Continental breakfast, served in the intimacy of your cabin by your personal steward.
There’s also a full range of setups available, starting with the Pullman Cabins’ plush sofas that, come the evening, are converted – again by your personal steward – to upper and lower berths, complete with crisp linens. Otherwise, the State Cabins are adapted into two single beds at floor level and the Presidential upgrade offers an expansive seating area and complimentary minibar. Whatever you choose, you can expect flawless, 24-hour service and an en suite that comes with a shower and luxury amenities.
The indulgences continue outside your cabin, with dining a particular highlight. From pan-fried scallops to fragrant Nyona curry, ultra-fresh produce is showcased across delightful menus, prepared onboard by award-winning chefs. Then, after taking in the monogrammed china and pristine marquetry of the restaurant carriage, perhaps retire to the Bar Car for a nightcap. While a delightful selection of wines, spirits and beers are included throughout, be sure to also try the mixologists cocktails. For further relaxation, rest up with a good book or board game among the saloon’s colonial grandeur or catch the breeze in the open Observation Car, watching as rice paddies and Malaysian jungle whip by.
