Location
In the 20th century, three quarters of the world’s pineapples were grown on Lanai. Today, the plantations are just a fading memory as the island has found a new lease of life as a premiere tropical destination. The resort itself overlooks a bay marine reserve as coastal trails lead down to a golden crescent of sand known as Hulopo’e Beach. There’s also the calving and breeding ground for hundreds of migrating whales just five minutes from the resort along with a school of spinner dolphins.
Accommodation
Accommodation is set between five botanical gardens, home to tumbling waterfalls and serene koi ponds. All 237 rooms come with down duvets and pillows, thick terrycloth bathrobes and sleek, Hawaiian-inspired interiors featuring mahogany floors, hand-woven rugs and bespoke artwork. Balconies look out to either the Pacific Ocean or the resort’s manicured gardens. To stay connected, there’s complimentary WiFi, 75” LED TVs and in-room iPads with complimentary access to over 3,000 newspapers. The teak-panelled en suite bathrooms come with double-wide rain showers, a carved stone vanity and a deep soaking bathtub.
Dining
With Hawaii’s rich tropical flavours as a departure point, the Four Seasons’ restaurants serve everything from Mediterranean grills and American seafood to experimental Japanese cuisine, all made using the freshest local and imported produce. Perhaps tuck into seafood sourced directly from local fishermen at Kailani, overlooking Hulopo’e Bay, or savour Nobu Lanai’s excellent sushi and sashimi. There are also hearty steaks at One Forty and light bites at Views, overlooking the tempered greens of Manele Golf Club.
Facilities
Explore the rugged red sand of the island’s interior on a four wheel UTV or its underwater reefs with scuba and snorkelling equipment. There’s also excellent hiking, biking and horseback riding through upland trails and hidden valleys, coated in green. More tangibly, the resort features a fantastic golf course, several tennis courts, fitness facilities and pools complete with popsicles, chilled towels and even complimentary sunscreen.
