Location
This camp offers 'glamping' accommodation at the Wilpena Pound Resort in the heart of South Australia's Flinders Ranges, around 400 kilometres north of Adelaide. Ikara adds a luxury camping option to the hotel-style accommodation and traditional camp ground already at the resort, offering guests a stylish and secluded option set in a tranquil corner of the property, furthest away from the resort's main building and facilities.
Accommodation
Set among river red gums and native pines, the accommodation at Ikara Safari Camp is made up of 15 spacious, en suite safari tents. The tents are made out of insulated canvas and are designed to cope perfectly during both the heat of the outback summer and the cooler winter months. All tents feature king beds, quality linens and bedding, side tables with lamps, a mini bar, luggage storage, in-room safe and tea and coffee making facilities. The fully tiled en suite bathrooms include vanity units, a shower and toilet. Amenities such as hair dryers, power outlets and reading lamps are also included, along with daily turn down service.
Dining
Guests can enjoy the dining facilities at the main resort, including Dodger's Restaurant and Bar, while during the warmer months BBQ dinners will be offered in a dedicated dining facility at Ikara itself, featuring a small kitchen, bar and lounge that can accommodate up to 30 people.
Facilities
The main resort has an inviting swimming pool, a shop, a general store and a visitor information centre, which provides a wealth of information about hiking in the Flinders Ranges and the region's flora and fauna, which includes 3,100 species of plant; 120 species of bird including the wedge tailed eagle, Australia's largest bird of prey; 86 species of reptile; and 20 species of mammal. There are also a number of guided excursions and activities on offer, including bush walking, biking, cultural tours, 4WD safaris and scenic flights, exploring the 800 million-year-old landscapes of the Flinders and the vast natural amphitheatre of Wilpena Pound.
