Location
Positioned on Kaikoura’s waterfront, you’ll be within walking distance of all the activities, shopping, cafés and restaurants that this quiet peninsula town has to offer. You’ll even be able to spot dolphin and whales from its windows. Get closer with cruises and kayak tours that take in the region’s spectacular array of marine wildlife that have won it the name, ‘Seaworld without walls’. Turn the other way and you’ll be treated to giant mountains, host to ranging hikes, 4WD adventures and golf courses alike. There’s also a rich Maori history to explore with hunters and fishermen calling the region home for just under a millennium.
Accommodation
As Kaikoura’s only boutique hotel, this bijoux offering combines contemporary design notes with a proudly evident history. The original floorboards of the hotel’s public spaces host delightful furniture and lead to sophisticated rooms that feature a flawlessly modern design from a celebrated New Zealand hotel designer. Throughout, bright splashes of colour adorn the walls and fine bed linens while 32” televisions, complimentary WiFi and generously sized beds keep you comfortable. Upgrade from a queen to a king with the Waterfront Rooms; these gems command fantastic Pacific Ocean views and feature bespoke furniture and designer bathrooms.
Dining
Take your breakfast with views out over dolphins playing in the bay; you’ll enjoy a fully included continental spread. The homemade bread and New Zealand salmon are a particular highlight, as is the gourmet coffee. It’s the perfect way to start a day of adventures in Kaikoura. For lunch and dinner, the staff can recommend a range of restaurants in the town; don’t miss out on the local crayfish – something the region has become famous for.
Facilities
Due to its size, you shouldn’t expect a grand range of amenities. Instead, there’s plenty of charm to the place with stunning views over the waters – the lounge is an ideal spot to enjoy a fine New Zealand vintage or make use of the complimentary WiFi. However, between whale cruises, kayak tours and hiking, you’ll want to head out and explore. A visit to the seal colonies comes highly recommended.
