Location
A visit to Kaya Mawa on Likoma Island is truly a step back in time. Covered in hundreds of huge baobab trees, sandy beaches and rocky coves, Kaya Mawa is most easily accessed by air. The favoured route flies from Johannesburg to the nearest airport Lilongwe, from which a light aircraft journeys for roughly an hour to Likoma Island.
Accommodation
Accommodating 26 people in a delightful and unique range of accommodation, the lodge’s rustic yet contemporary rooms have been designed in partnership with Katunda Textiles – an island workshop set up to empower single mothers and give employment to people from neighbouring villages. Standard rooms are nestled right on the lakefront and come with outdoor bathrooms and large decks. The lodge’s premium rooms boast 180-degree lake views, split level decks and private plunge pools.
Dining
In true island style, guests are invited to dine on full breakfasts and lunches made from fresh and local ingredients, as the restaurant serves healthy and innovative cuisine. Private dinners can be arranged in an array of idyllic locations, including the beach, deck or under the gazebo.
Facilities
Kaya Mawa offers a range of activities, including biking, fishing, guided walks, kayaking, quad-biking, sailing, scuba-diving, snorkelling and water skiing alongside beauty treatments and wellness.
