Location

Hidden away below the forested slopes of Mt. Meru, this tranquil getaway is the ideal contrast to Tanzania’s wilds – perfect as a pre- or post-safari haunt. Indeed, it’s set right as a gateway to Tanzania’s famed ‘Northern Safari Circuit’. But, this is no mere stopping off point, with spectacular views over its eponymous lake and a position of pride among the region’s lauded coffee plantations. Wander out from extensive, landscaped grounds to taste your way through the local produce.

Accommodation

Once a working coffee farm itself, the hotel’s modern-day incarnation remembers all the colonial charm of its rich past. Moving out from the stone-built reception, you’ll settle into your cottage accommodation, presented in classic country-house style. Expect marble bathrooms, leaded windows and double French doors that lead out onto the flower-filled garden, fondly termed the ‘village square’. They’re views taken full advantage of by the vanity or work area. In turn, the oversize beds are an additional highlight, their generous sizing matched by cool, lofty ceilings.

Dining

The bucolic aesthetic continues into the dining room and bar, each host to blazing log fires along with yet more lake and garden vistas. For the best views, be sure to take your meals on the open-air terrace. Breakfasts and lunches are presented buffet-style, with full English options paired with a full spread of both regional and international dishes. However, it’s the dinners that really stand out; multi-course offerings are formed from ingredients sourced from local communities. For something extra special, consider taking your meal on the shores of the lake, with sundowner cocktails paired with bush kitchen specialities.

Facilities

Your stay at Lake Duluti will be all about making the most of this beautiful region. Smell the coffee on a guided walk, take a mountain bike out on one of the wooded trails or hit the water with a canoe trip. Alternatively, simply spend some time wandering the sculpted grounds. You’ll also have the option of visiting the nearby Arusha and Mt. Meru national parks, with volcanic scenery backdropping a range of wildlife. Back at base, there’s everything from dance and music performances and bookable massages to a library and lessons on Swahili language and cooking.
