Location
The only privately owned safari lodge set on the banks of Lake St Lucia, Makakatana Bay Lodge is a four-star property, benefitting from the unspoiled wilderness beaches, vast wetlands and game reserves that accompany its location- iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site. The ideal location allows additional activities such as scuba diving, deep sea fishing and whale watching safaris to be easily arranged, and is situated 1.5 hours from Richards Bay Airport.
Accommodation
Guests are accommodated in six bright and spacious suites, composed of five standard suites and one honeymoon suite. Three of the standard suites are set in the dune forest, with frequent visitors including warthog, Nyla, bush babies and hippo, one suite faces though the bush onto a vlei (watering-hole) and the other standard suite gazes onto views through the bush and onto the lake. All standard suites feature air conditioning/heating and en-suite facilities. The honeymoon suite is situated privately, with private game viewing decks, an outdoor shower and views onto a vlei.
Dining
Makakatana lodge offers a dining room, an outdoor dining deck and boma for bush dinners, with private dining available upon request. Using the freshest ingredients, a variety of dishes are served at lunch and dinner, with a set and a la carte menu.
Facilities
Makakatana Bay Lodge offers morning, afternoon and nightly game drives included with the price- travel to the heart of the Wetland park in an open 4x4 safari vehicle, with opportunities in sighting elephant, rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile and nocturnal animals including bush babies, pythons, leopard and hyena. In addition to this, fully inclusive full day safaris are offered to guests, as they explore the Wetlands by boat or head off to the Indian Ocean Coastline to seek out animals in Hluhluwe Umfolozi.
