Location

Positioned among 16 acres of secluded parklands, this is a grand country estate at the centre of the famed Marlborough wine region. It’s got history too. First built in 1901 next to St. Mary’s Church in Blenheim as a Victorian convent, it was only moved to its present location in 1994 bringing it to a secluded position, just outside of town and surrounded by vineyards. It’s also just a short distance from the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, host to the sunniest climate in New Zealand. Return from days spent on tastings to wanders through the lodge’s parklands that range from vast manicured lawns to compact vegetable patches. Take your own peaceful stroll or join the head gardener for a complimentary tour of the estate’s vineyards and gardens.

Accommodation

Native timbers were used extensively in the lodge’s construction – the perfect medium for expert Victorian craftsmanship best found in its grand staircase constructed entirely from kauri wood. There are ten contemporary suites to choose from, each with its own spacious en suite and balcony access to scenic views. Drawing inspiration from the building, rooms are perfectly realised in heritage style, epitomised by bright white linens and timber furnishing. Upgrade for private first floor balconies and larger rooms.

Dining

At Marlborough Lodge you’ll be treated to pre-dinner drinks and canapés, indulgent breakfasts and three course dinners, all included in the nightly tariff. Start the day with a selection of continental or cooked offerings before winding down in the afternoon with amuse-bouches prepared in front of you in the demonstration kitchen. It’s all rounded off by an exquisite meal that takes full advantage of New Zealand’s culinary pantry, paired with an expert-selected collection of premium wines from Marlborough and further afield. Wexas customers will also enjoy a complimentary bottle of Cloudy Bay on arrival.

Facilities

Whether it’s the heated outdoor pool, the grass tennis courts or in-room spa treatments, there’s plenty to keep you busy in the lodge’s 16-acre slice of Marlborough. However, head beyond its pearly gates to experience the region’s diverse attractions. Of course, wine tours take centre stage with something for aficionados and novices alike while cruises on Marlborough Sounds will introduce you to the equally delightful seafood of the region. Alternatively, take it all in with a helicopter experience.
