Location
River Lodge, situated on the banks of Sabi River is located right in the heart of Lion Sands, the southern part of Kruger National Park. Driving time from Johannesburg is approximately five hours, however if travelling by road it is recommended that guests spend a night en-route at Panorama route, to ensure on arrival guests are fresh and ready for an incredible safari experience. Alternatively, Airlink has a daily return flight scheduled from Skukuza Airport to Cape Town International and twice daily from Johannesburg Airport.
Accommodation
Accommodation includes 12 Luxury Rooms, six Superior Luxury Rooms and two River Suites, with the option of Family Rooms, featuring two inter-leading rooms. All suites feature individual and private wooden viewing decks overlooking the river and en-suite facilities, with luxury suites including king-size beds. Superior Luxury suites are larger in size with open-plan bathrooms, and the River Suites are located further afield for privacy and incredible river views.
Dining
Breakfasts are served in the shade of a jackal berry tree, towering above the lodge, with a menu ranging from breads and muffins, fruit salad, cheese and cold meat platters, smoked salmon and yoghurts, followed by game meats. Lunches tend to be a lighter affair after the breakfast spread, often picnics in the bush consisting of light salads, quiche and fish. Dinners are presented exquisitely upon the lodge’s riverside viewing platform or Sabi plains, with menu items including crocodile kebabs, true African bush cuisine.
Facilities
Activities include morning and evening game drives, offering the chance to spot wildlife in what is arguably Africa’s most pristine Big 5 territory, in the safety of open safari vehicles, accompanied by a ranger and guide. Guests are also invited to join in bush walks, bird watching, and river walks, wildlife lectures, and wellness treatments, swim in two of the heated pools and visits to sights of historical significance and local village experiences.
