Location
On a tree-lined street in central Charlottetown, this historic hotel spans almost an entire block of renovated historic buildings dating back to 1846. Just a couple of minutes away from the Province House National Historic Site and five minutes’ walk from Confederation Landing riverside park, many of the city’s attractions are close by. Charlottetown is the provincial capital of Prince Edward Island and its airport is about 20 minutes from Great George Street. Flights from Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto arrive all year round. A number of major cruise lines also stop at Charlottetown and the terminal is about half a mile from the hotel.
Accommodation
Extending across 17 different fully restored historic buildings, accommodation comprises 50 guest rooms and suites, and four luxury condos. Elegantly decorated, the Traditional Accommodations come with single queen or two double beds and private bathroom. Upgrade to a Deluxe and enjoy your own fireplace and a choice between a jacuzzi or an antique clawfoot tub. The hotel’s signature Romantic Hideaway Suites include king-sized bed, fireplace, and double jacuzzi. Guests seeking the maximum luxury available should opt for the two-level Perkins Suite, with its own kitchen, dining room, walk-in closet and private rooftop deck.
Dining
A buffet breakfast is served in the comfortably furnished Great Room lounge and the hotel is happy to supply bagged breakfasts to guests who might be short of time or heading out early in the morning. Warm, freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies are freely available in the lounge up until midnight, while free wine and local craft beer is also offered during the hotel’s happy hour between 5 and 6pm: the perfect opportunity to get to know some of your fellow guests. For dinner, you can either eat in your suite or the hotel will direct you to one of their nearby affiliated independent restaurants.
Facilities
The sights, shops, and restaurants of downtown Charlottetown are all within easy walking distance of The Great George. Guests who sign up to the hotel’s Green Program can forego their housekeeping service in exchange for a daily $10 food voucher exchangeable at any one of their 13 affiliated neighbourhood restaurants. There is a historical walking tour around the property every day before happy hour, and board games, DVDs and a library are all on offer in the lobby/lounge. There is also a newly renovated workout room and complimentary walking and running maps available for anyone needing to work off all those free cookies.
