Location
Set among 50 acres of native bush that borders two national parks, The Resurgence is ideally positioned for exploring both Abel Tasman and Kahurangi. Here you’ll find everything from kayaking and hiking to boat trips and golden sands. There’s also the golden beaches of Golden Bay, walks up Mt. Arthur and the fine wine and cuisine of Nelson all within easy reach. But you don’t have to stray far for a breath of fresh air with over five kilometres of hiking trails on the property itself, home to friendly native birds, rivers and a Middle Earth cave system that emerges from a marble hillside.
Accommodation
Since 2003, an on-going ecosystem restoration project has regenerated the lodge’s native rainforest, providing a verdant cloak for its suites, bush chalets and lodge rooms. The individual, timber-clad Bush Lodges – looking out over the canopy – offer massage showers, roll-top baths-with-a-view and down duvets, all wrapped in luxury safari authenticity. Then there’s the stand-alone Bush Chalets, which, while not enjoying quite the same elevation and size, come overlooking Kahurangi National Park and feature similar amenities to their lodge counterparts. Lastly the Lodge Rooms are the most contemporary offering, combining clean timber lines and modern furnishings.
Dining
Evenings at The Resurgence are special occasions. Hosts Peter and Clare join you and your fellow dinner guests for a glass or two of Nelson wine and an amuse bouche platter. Meals are then served in the style of a dinner party with daily menus that feature only the freshest local produce and organic produce from the lodge’s kitchen garden. There’s goat’s cheese from Golden Bay, salmon from Nelson and free-range hens from Riwaka Valley. The same attention to detail goes into the excellent breakfasts. For something special, candlelit private dining is also available both inside and al fresco.
Facilities
After a hard day’s exploring, return to the lodge to refresh in the saltwater pool or soak in the hot tub. There’s also a gym and yoga area, complete with a range of machines including spin bikes and free weights. However, it’s the massages that really shine with aromatheraphy, beauty treatments and reflexology all available. There’s also the aforementioned hiking trails, which double as a jogging track and mountain bike course. The latter are available for use free of charge.
