Location
This intimate luxury lodge is located at the far western end of the lush Punakha Valley. It is in a picturesque base overlooking a snake-like bend in the Mo Chu River, and is ideally located for those who want to explore this remote Himalayan Kingdom. The hotel is a five-hour drive from Paro, and offers exceptional access to some of Bhutan’s most celebrated landscapes and historic sites, including the Temple of the Divine Madman, and the Punakha Dzong.
Accommodation
There are nine hillside Valley View rooms, and two freestanding luxury private villas at the hotel. Take a Valley View Room for breath-taking views of the verdant landscape, outdoor terraces, king-sized beds and bright wall paintings by local artisans. Alternatively, take a One Bedroom Villa for an elegant one-bedroom house, with French windows overlooking the valley. Finally, there are COMO Villas. Their interiors are decorated with traditional Bhutan designs, luxurious Indian cotton bedcovers, a minibar, air conditioning and a bath and separate shower stall. They also have access to a personal butler.
Dining
There’s one main restaurant at the hotel, the Bukhari, that serves lunch and dinner dishes. Lunches are international comfort foods, such as pasta and salads, and dinner is a gastronomic treat. All meals have strong flavours, and are made by chef Dewa Wijaya who sources the seasonal, local ingredients.
Facilities
There are a number of wellbeing facilities at the hotel, particularly the COMO Shambhala Retreat, which offers a range of holistic, Asian-inspired treatments, including signature massages, facials, and body therapies. The spa is located in a calm woodland glade near to the hotel, and has two treatment rooms: a double for couples and a single room that features a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath.
