Location
This luxurious hotel and hacienda from &Beyond commands an enviable location on the shaded banks of the Liucura River. As a 40-hectare farm that still hosts a modern cheese and milk dairy, Vira Vira has an ethos grounded in the highest ecological standards. Surrounded by ancient araucaria trees and just a short distance from three impressive volcanic peaks – Villarica, Lanin and Quetrupillan – it’s a spectacular base for exploring some of Chile’s finest landscapes. For access, Pucón and Temuco airports are both close at hand.
Accommodation
Rooms and a collection of spacious suites are spread throughout the main building, original hacienda and grounds with views to the lagoon and river. Rooms, cosy yet spacious, have large bathrooms and private terraces that open out to lush, landscaped gardens. In the large Villa Suites you’ll find a fireplaces, separate lounge area and generous outside space with bubbling hot tubs and volcano views. For the ultimate indulgence, the Ruca Suite – reached by a short walk through the native forest – offers lagoon-side seclusion and the chance to truly get away from it all.
Dining
Bringing together a collection of local and indigenous recipes, and using the very freshest ingredients, the gourmet restaurant is a true celebration of regional Chilean food. The homebred Angus beef is particularly noteworthy, as are the blue and green-husked eggs from the farm’s very own Mapuche hens. Two full menus are accompanied by a full complement of Chilean and international wines.
Facilities
From yoga classes to cheese making demonstrations, life at the Hacienda is nothing if not varied. But step away from its cosseted confines and you’ll discover a region full of excitement and adventure. A programme of activities – included in the room rate – covers everything from rafting, kayaking, nature walks and fishing trips to cycling, sailing and volcano flights. And, from November 2017, the addition of a helicopter service will provide the chance for stunning aerial tours over the region's lakes, forests and volcanoes or, as a stylish and speedy way to transfer between the hotel and airport. The helicopter will have room for four passengers and luggage.
