Location
40km south and a world away from South India’s largest city Chennai, Fisherman's Cove sits at the tip of a secluded spit facing out onto the Bay of Bengal. The spit supports the beautiful Covelong Beach, a long expanse of palm-fringed sand that is home to fishermen and windsurfers, and behind it sits a brackish backwater home to delicious crabs and plentiful wildlife.
Accommodation
The main resort building’s Superior Charm Rooms offer tasteful modern decorations and some superb views over the swimming pool to the Bay of Bengal. But the best options are the private cottages and villas dispersed around the grounds, bedecked in minimalist Scandinavian design, fused with indulgent Indian touches, the latest smart home gadgets, and an undeniable air of luxury. A shorefront cottage is highly recommended.
Dining
The all-day Seagull restaurant offers an international repertoire, while the freshest catches are served up alfresco in speciality fish restaurant Bay View. More dining with a vista takes place at Upper Deck, a gourmet Mediterranean restaurant, while light snacks and exquisite cocktails await at the Anchor Bar.
Facilities
Afternoons are too easily whiled away at the sunken Sun Burst Bar, a section of the pool where you can soak up rays, booze and insouciance all at once. The Taj Jiva Spa offers further relaxation and invigoration, while a fitness centre, tennis court and badminton court all provide ample opportunities to earn your next indulgence. World-renowned sights in the near vicinity include ancient shore temples at Mahabalipuram, Auroville Ashram and the Crocodile Bank nature reserve.
