History & culture
Explore remote Easter Island (Rapa Nui) on this four-day extension from Chile’s capital, Santiago. Staying at a choice of superior and deluxe hotels, you’ll discover the island’s unique nature and rich cultural heritage, manifested in the mysterious stone moai that look out to the crystalline waters of the Polynesian Pacific.
Our superior option, staying at Hare Noi, follows a set itinerary that takes in the best of the island’s remarkable nature coupled with its most impressive geological sites. Following a traditional Rapa Nui greeting and a transfer to your hotel you’ll embark on a series of guided activities and excursions beginning on day two with a drive along the coast to see volcanic rock formations and the toppled moai at Ahu Vaihu, your first glimpse of those famous statues. Following a visit to the ancient quarry at Rano Raraku, which supplied the stone from which 95% of the island’s sculptures were carved, you’ll head to Ahu Tongariki, home to 15 restored moai, and spend time relaxing on the beach at Anekena. On your last full day you’ll explore the ceremonial village of Orongo and examine centuries-old petroglyph images en route to the caves at Ana Kai Tangata and the archaeological sites of Hanga Poukura and Puna Pau.
If you prefer a more tailored approach, our deluxe option includes three nights at the outstanding Explora Rapa Nui and a choice of up to 20 independent activities and small group excursions. Each day is meticulously planned over a drink in the hotel bar the night before with options including hiking, cycling and scenic boat tours that take in the very best of the island’s history, culture and coast.
