Safari of the Scenes – Glenorchy

Step on to the film sets that brought Tolkien’s works to the silver screen on a 4wd excursion. You’ll trace the spectacular mountain and forest views of Lake Wakatipu’s coastline as you drive out of Queenstown towards Glenorchy to visit filming locations from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. And, to really go there and back again, replica props, expert guides and the chance to don the costumes bring it all to life. A real highlight is the Dart Valley. As the setting of Isengard, snow-capped mountains rise out of turquoise waters to frame views of Mt. Earnslaw and its hanging glacier. It’s these vistas that have backdropped everything from X-Men Origins to The Chronicles of Narnia.
