Using helicopters, jet boats and your own two feet, you’ll venture deep into the native rainforest and ancient river valleys of one of New Zealand’s least disturbed wildernesses. Departing from Makaroa, a scenic helicopter flight will treat you to aerial views of the region’s towering mountains and glaciers before you land in the remote Siberia Valley. In spite of its name, barren Russia this is not, as an easy three-hour walk brings you through dense sub-alpine vegetation before tracking the valley’s winding river. A fast-paced return jet boat ride through the icy blue waters of Wilkin and Makaroa rivers will then see you back to base. Despite lasting just half a day, this is a truly comprehensive experience.
