A flight from Lima to Chiclayo will take you off the beaten track to the remote delights of Peru’s wild north. Start with a tour of Sipan’s Royal Tombs where adobe edifices hide mausoleums filled with gold pieces and precious stones before travelling on to Trujillo the next day. En route, you’ll stop off at El Brujo, an archaeological site where you’ll be able to watch experts working to uncover a 16th century pyramid. On day three, you’ll explore the valley further with visits to its grand adobe pyramids, temples lined with mud-brick friezes and ancestral communities. After lunch, you’ll make your way to the largest adobe city in the world – Chan Chan. Dating back to the 14th century, you can still visit its broad plazas and royal burial chambers. A flight will bring you back to Lima on the final day.
