Plain of Jars

Mysterious 2,000-year-old, enormous stone jars are the primary reasons for visiting this undulating plateau in Xieng Khouang province, to the east of Vang Vieng towards the Vietnam border.

Tham Chang is the most renowned of Vang Vieng's numerous karst caves and rocky outcrops.

A soaring backdrop of limestone cliffs and clawing mountains is reason enough to visit pint-sized Vang Vieng, but if you're after a touch of genteel adventuring you should be heading there regardless.
