On this two-week tour, you’ll take in the history of Boston, the icons of New York City, the cultural delights of Philadelphia and the sheer importance of Washington, DC's' monuments, museums and political powerhouses. In between, you’ll watch as rural charm morphs into impressive city skylines through your carriage window as you make your way down New England's coastal tracks to New York before moving inland. Travelling by train is an excellent way of getting a unique perspective of America's vast East Coast.

1-3
UK/Boston
Relax in your included VIP airport lounge before a day flight to Boston and a transfer to your landmark hotel. From its grand stone façade and marble columns, explore the city’s historic cobbled streets or tuck into steamed lobsters and half-shell oysters fresh from the Massachusetts coast. And, from the Georgian halls of Harvard to the brutalism of Boston City Hall, there’s always something to see. Walk along the Liberty Trail, a 2.5 –mile self-guided walk that tells the story of the American Revolution.

New York City
Watch as the greenery of the New England coastline gives way to the skyline of New York on your first train journey of the trip. Here, you’ll have three days to explore the bustle of Times Square, the iconography of the Statue of Liberty and the quiet corners of Central Park. Whatever your tastes, New York has a world-class something for you – from the Guggenheim Museum and Broadway Shows to fine restaurants and towering skyscrapers.

Philadelphia
Following the Delaware River south, your next rail trip will bring you to America’s once capital, Philadelphia. Imbibe its rich history at the turn of the century City Hall and its thriving culture at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. A particular highlight is the red brick of the Old City, including charming Elfreth’s Alley – the oldest continuously inhabited street in the U.S. While in the city, join the locals and tuck into the guilty pleasures of a Philly cheesesteak sandwich or explore Reading Terminal Market, a public market with over 80 different food vendors, open daily.

Crossing over Chesapeake bay, your connecting train will take you to the country’s modern-day capital, Washington DC. Take in the political weight of sights such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol building and, of course the White House but don’t forget to choose your favourite from the awe-inspiring Smithsonian collection of museums.

On your penultimate day, an included transfer will take you to Washington’s airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.
