Location
Situated just across from the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and within walking distance of the Washington Monument, United States Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial, it’s fair to say that you’d be well located. It’s also right on the border of the vibrant urban culture of Chinatown and just blocks away from some of Washington’s best shopping. The best experience, however, is a stroll through the National Mall to some of America’s most iconic sights.
Accommodation
Boutique rooms are bright and colourful with designer furnishings and vibrant prints. Vaulted ceilings frame large beds and patterned curtains while luxurious terrycloth bathrobes hang in the bathroom, itself complemented with amenities by Bigelow. You’ll also find Italian Frette linens on the bed. Suites come with decadently loud interiors along with private bedrooms, whirlpool spa tubs and glass stall showers fitted with rainfall showerheads.
Dining
Chef Kyoo Eom cooks exciting menus from the Poste Moderne Brasserie’s open kitchen inside a 19th century post-office. Using herbs and vegetables from the chef’s own garden, the kitchen prepares everything from baby kale salad and mussels picante to gourmet lamb burgers and grilled ribeye steak with twice baked potato. Guests take their meals in either the private dining room or, when the weather’s favourable, on the communal outdoor table. Breakfasts are equally indulgent with American waffles on offer while the lunch menu features a selection of light bites including crab cake sandwiches and honey glazed eggplant.
Facilities
With your health in mind, Hotel Monaco provides guests with bicycles to explore Washington with, an in-room yoga mat and a fitness centre, complete with weights and cardio machines. In the morning, there’s a complimentary newspaper service along with coffee in the living room while, come the evening, there’s a hosted wine tasting hour with bottles from socially responsible wineries. For an equally relaxing experience, there’s an in-room spa service with massage, body and facial treatments available.
