With private tours, included dining and the services of a private driver throughout, this unique itinerary showcases the lesser-known highlights of northern Vietnam. You’ll start with Hanoi’s colonial intrigue and home-grown legacies, showcased on cycle and vespa tours, before heading to a mountain retreat for infinity-pool relaxation, full-board dining and guided hikes among remote villages and mountain-framed rice paddies. Then, after taking in UNESCO-listed Ninh Binh’s ancient citadels and limestone-mountain beauty, showcased on a cycle ride and sampan boat and, you’ll end with Halong Bay’s lesser-known Lan Ha Bay. With a three-day full-board cruise, you’ll enjoy everything from kayaking and swimming to Tai Chi and cooking classes among the famous karst peaks.

On arrival, a private driver will see you to your central spa hotel’s colonial elegance and rooftop bar. While there’s time to explore yourself, we’ve also included a series of private excursions over the next two days. Travelling by foot, vespa and cyclo rickshaw, you’ll take in everything from the bustling old quarter and French district’s fading colonial architecture to Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, the ancient Temple of Literature and the Hanoi Hilton – the notorious POW jail. Between visits to colourful markets and riverside farms, you’ll even be treated to an included lunch and dinner of local street-food delicacies, taken after an included drink at a rooftop cocktail bar overlook tranquil Hoan Kiem Lake.
