This tailor-made itinerary starts in Bangkok, Thailand's hot and happening capital city where ancient temples and ornate palaces sit side by side with ultra modern skyscrapers and designer boutiques. You'll then head north to some of Thailand's most fascinating and atmospheric sites, including the ancient crumbling city of Sukhothai, Thailand's 13th Century former capital, and the remote hill tribe villages of the Golden Triangle, by the Mekong River and the borders of Burma and Laos. The tour finishes in Phuket, Thailand's premier island destination, with a luxury four-night stay.

Bangkok
Arrive in Bangkok, Thailand's bustling, frenetic and intriguing capital. Transfer to your hotel and get ready to explore one of South East Asia's great cities. Over three days you'll be able to cover many of the city's highlights, including the gilded temples of Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat Pho, the majestic Grand Palace and the multitude of markets and food stalls that seem to hide around every corner. You'll also enjoy a memorable evening dinner cruise along the Chao Praya River, a great way to experience some of Bangkok's exceptional cuisine while taking in some of the city's famous sites by night, a truly spectacular sight.

Ayutthaya, Lopburi & Phitsanulok
Your private guide will meet you at your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and you'll begin your journey north. Today's sights include the remarkable palaces and temples of UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ayutthaya, the Khmer temples of Lopburi and the historic city of Phitsanulok, where you'll spend the night.

Sukhothai to Chiang Rai
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sukhothai, the first capital of the Thai Kingdom and its sister city Sri Satchanalai. In the afternoon, drive north to Chiang Rai in the heart of Thailand's hill tribe country, stopping along the way at Phrae and Phayao.

Chiang Rai
See an almost-forgotten way of life in the hill tribe villages around Chiang Rai. You'll visit some of the small villages dotted throughout the spectacular landscapes that are home to the indigenous Akha and Yao tribes who still lead a very traditional way of life. In the afternoon head to Thailand's notorious Golden Triangle near the borders of Burma and Laos where you'll have the chance to enjoy an optional cruise on the Mekong River and visit an old opium house. Alternatively, for our Deluxe option, you'll have a choice of excursions. Aside from trips into the Golden Triangle, you'll also have the option of a cooking class, spa treatment or elephant experience. What's more, while breakfast and lunch are included at both options, guests at the Anantara are also treated to a gourmet dinner.

Chiang Mai
Depart Chiang Rai this morning for the journey to Chiang Mai. On the way you'll stop at the town of Mae Ka Chan, famed for its natural hot springs before passing through the scenic hillsides and jungle that characterise the scenery of this region. Enjoy a day of feasting and sightseeing in the laidback city of Chiang Mai, with lunch at a local restaurant, an afternoon drive to the mountain temple of Wat Phra Dhat Doi Suthep and a traditional Kantoke dinner and folk show in the evening.

Elephant Camp
Spend a day at the Rantong Elephant Camp in the forests around Chiang Mai where you'll meet, ride and bathe the elephants as part of a fascinating elephant-training course. Learn the basic commands before setting off on a ride through the jungle, putting into practice what you've learned. Enjoy a refreshing swim in a jungle waterfall before returning to Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

Phuket
Transfer to Chiang Mai airport for your flight to Phuket. On arrival you'll be met and transferred to your chosen hotel for a four-night stay.
