Where are you just back from:
I'm just back from the Harriniva Holiday Centre near Kittila in Finnish Lapland.
What did you see/do when you were there:
Harriniva offers a wide variety of winter activies right from the doorstep of the hotel. Such activities include, dog sledging, snowmobiling, reindeer safari from a local farm and ice fishing on the nearby river.
What was your highlight:
While out on the snowmobiles, we drove through forest deep with snow, and then out onto a huge frozen lake - something Finland is rather well known for. Here there is no speed limit, and you can easily get up to 100km/hr!
Another highlight for me was the husky safari. When you arrive at the farm (only 50m from the hotel), the dogs are going crazy, barking like mad, and all they want to do is run! The noise starts to get to you, but then as they start to run, they're silent, all you hear is their breath and paws on the snow. It turns from total mayhem to compete tranquillity in seconds!
What would be your tip for this holiday:
I would say that all the main activities that Harriniva offers are worth doing, none of which you would have the opportunity to do in the UK.
Why should a member travel there:
Members should go to Harriniva to really experience the great outdoors, it's a lovely environment to try winter sports that you haven't tried before and is a really unique destination.
What is unique about this place:
Harrinvia gives all the comforts of a hotel, while really giving the feel of being in the countryside. The arctic wilderness is wonderful. A great place for seeing the Northern Lights - in season.
Did you have any dissapointments:
No, the whole experience was excellent.
