Introduction
Amboseli has the perfect backdrop at all times - the flat-topped Kilimanjaro rising above it in dramatic fashion. It's a scene straight from central casting for perfect safaris - the daily cycle of life on the plains played out against the imposing snow capped mountain, the highest in Africa.
Wildlife against Kilimanjaro is a breathtaking sight, as documented so vividly by photographers and by authors such as Ernest Hemingway. The elephants here often have gigantic tusks, and the herds of plains game - wildebeest and zebra in particular - are prolific.
Predators are present too, though not quite as widespread, so it's worth combining a trip to Amboseli with one to Tsavo as part of a bespoke Kenya travel itinerary.
