Location
The eponymous national park is located in the dynamic Pilbara region some 1,400km from Perth. Its sediment gorges, waterfalls and rolling hillsides are home to Banyjima, Kurrama and Innawonga Aboriginal tribes who share it with red kangaroos, rock-wallabies and a host of birdlife. Take to the walking trails that criss-cross the area to discover it all for yourself. The retreat itself is set in the middle of the park among the bushland that surrounds Joffre Gorge. Hosting waterfalls, plunge pools and towering cliffs, the gorge is one of the premier attractions in the Karijini National Park.
Accommodation
The deluxe en suite tents, which are constructed from local, sustainable sources, are comfortable, well appointed and surprisingly spacious. There’s a deck at the front and rear of each tent, perfect for whiling away the hours with a glass of wine or cold beer. With composite timber, solar power and natural ventilation, you can be sure that the retreat’s eco credentials will stand up to testing.
Dining
Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are served in the Alfresco Restaurant, which showcases delicious local ingredients cooked in traditional Aussie barbecue style. Start your day with a continental breakfast or upgrade to a hot cooked breakfast from the grill or its vegetarian equivalent. Upon request, you can take your dinner in the comfort of your tent. Guests also have use of the retreat’s barbecue facilities scattered around the estate.
Facilities
For those looking to self-cater, the kiosk sells bread, milk and other groceries along with a selection of cold drinks, ice-creams and confectioneries. While all of the national park’s famed gorges are within driving distance, the retreat also puts on a range of guided tours. Adventure trips include climbing, hiking, abseiling, waterslides, swimming and rafting while coach tours let guests explore at a slower pace.
