Day by day itinerary

Day 1
UK to New York

Enjoy complimentary airport lounge access before your flight from the UK to New York. On arrival, a private transfer will bring you to your stylish boutique hotel in the trendy, post-industrial SoHo neighbourhood. In the evening, you might fancy heading to the Soho Diner for classic, unfussy American fare, perhaps followed by a cocktail or two in the vintage-themed Grand Bar and Salon or the atmospheric, Art Deco-style Club Room, which hosts the likes of live DJ sets, piano music and jazz.

Stay: Soho Grand Hotel or similar

Day 2
New York

You have the entire day free to explore New York at leisure. Whether you’ve been before or it’s your first time, there’s always something new and exciting to discover in this remarkably vibrant and eclectic metropolis. Perhaps you’ll take a stroll through Central Park, ascend the Empire State Building, catch a show on Broadway, walk along the High Line, stop by Times Square or pay a poignant visit to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. The choice is practically endless.

Settle into your spacious and superbly appointed suite and take some time to familiarise yourself with the ship, which features a whole host of amenities designed for both leisure and relaxation, including the likes of an onboard spa, a fitness centre, a pool, a casino, and numerous plush communal lounge areas. And, of course, exquisite full-board gourmet dining and beverages are included throughout your voyage. You’ll depart New York in the evening, as your journey begins sailing in a northeasterly direction towards Rhode Island.

Day 4
Newport, Rhode Island

Sail through Narragansett Bay this morning as you arrive in Newport on the southwest shore of Rhode Island, the smallest state in the US. The town, together with its surrounding coastline, is renowned for its plethora of grand 19th-century mansions, rich sailing heritage and delicious seafood. You’ll have the option to disembark here for a choice of optional excursions introducing you to Rhode Island’s fascinating history and picturesque scenery, such as a guided drive, a coastal hike or an oyster experience, in which you’ll visit the village of South Kingston to learn all about the local oyster harvesting industry before trying some for yourself, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine.

Day 5
Boston, Massachusetts

Continuing north, your next stop is Boston, a city renowned for its integral role in the American Revolution in the late 18th century. Today, it’s a lively cultural hub replete with world-class museums, a flourishing arts and music scene, a diverse culinary landscape and plenty of beautiful parks dotted with historic monuments.

An excellent way to get to grips with the city’s heritage is to follow the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail, which links 16 major landmarks that tell the story of Boston over the centuries in the wider context of its significance in the history of the US. These sites include Boston Common, the Massachusetts State House, Park Street Church and Faneuil Hall, which today hosts the fabulous Quincy Market. There are also options for private touring which combine the highlights of the city centre with a visit to nearby Cambridge, home to the prestigious Harvard University.

Day 6
Bar Harbor, Maine

After beginning your voyage amid the urban sights of New York and Boston, Maine’s Mount Desert Island provides a sharp contrast, with its pink granite mountains, towering cliffs, freshwater lakes and sprawling coniferous forests, perpetually lashed by frothing ocean waves and salty spray from the Atlantic. The island’s largest town, Bar Harbor, became a popular summer vacation resort for the wealthy during the Gilded Age (1870s-1890s) and today attracts outdoor adventure enthusiasts as a gateway to the spectacular landscapes of Acadia National Park.

Indeed, you’ll have the option to visit the nearby national park on a guided tour, stopping at Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs and Cadillac Mountain, the latter offering magnificent views over the island and out to sea. Or, you might be tempted by a private lobster bake lunch at Frenchman Bay for a truly authentic experience in one of the island’s most scenic spots.

There’s all kinds of entertainment to enjoy, too, including fascinating talks from experts in arts, history and sciences and live music in the evenings. Day 8
Halifax, Nova Scotia

Having crossed the maritime border between the US and Canada, your next port of call is Halifax, the provincial capital of Nova Scotia – a city steeped in rich maritime heritage. The stone and wood former warehouses that line its harbour have been converted into a multi-purpose complex of bars, restaurants, galleries and shops collectively known as the Historic Properties, many of them retaining their original features.

There’s the option to disembark for a guided walking tour, stopping at the Citadel National Historic Site, the 200-year-old Town Clock and the Grand Parade, winding your way back to the ship via tree-lined streets with elegant Victorian era buildings. Or, you could venture beyond Halifax along the Lighthouse Route to the historic fishing community of Peggy’s Cove or the timber-clad, UNESCO-listed town of Lunenburg. Wine aficionados, meanwhile, may choose to visit the Annapolis Valley, home to Nova Scotia’s finest vineyards.

Day 10
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Arrive in Charlottetown, the capital of Prince Edward Island, known as the ‘Birthplace of Confederation’ due to the conference held here in 1864 that later led to the foundation of Canada as we know it today. Prince Edward Island has been shaped over the centuries by numerous waves of immigration, from the French Acadians in the early 1700s to the British later that same century, alongside the indigenous Mi’kmaq people who have inhabited the region for over 12,000 years. The island’s coastline, meanwhile, is characterised by dramatic rust-red cliffs and windswept beaches and sand dunes.

You may choose to focus your explorations in Charlottetown, where options include a culinary tour, a photography tour and show at a local theatre, or you could venture further afield on a guided drive taking in the highlights of Prince Edward Island. There are also opportunities to sample some of the island’s famed seafood, notably oysters and lobsters, and to learn all about the traditions of how these delicacies are harvested.

Day 12
Saguenay, Quebec

Sailing inland, you’ll soon reach Saguenay, a city on the banks of an ancient fjord formed during the last Ice Age, lined by a vast expanse of pristine lakes and balsam fir and yellow birch forests. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years by the First Nations people, and is therefore steeped in indigenous cultural heritage as well as spellbinding natural beauty. The Musée du Fjord in Saguenay itself is an ideal place to learn all about the region’s natural and cultural history, or you might opt to head straight to the national park for a scenic hike. Alternatively, take to the water and explore Saguenay National Park on a thrilling Zodiac boat tour or a sea kayaking tour.

Day 13
Cruising the Saguenay Fjord, Quebec

Today offers another chance to take in the splendid scenery of Saguenay Fjord National Park as you sail among the foothills of the forest-carpeted Laurentian Mountains out towards the Gulf of St. Lawrence, where brackish water mixes with fresh water from the Saguenay Fjord, flowing from Lac St. Jean. As you go, keep an eye out for marine wildlife such as harbour seals, minke whales and white beluga whales, which can occasionally be spotted breaking the water’s surface. The sheer cliffs of Cap Trinité and the statue of Notre-Dame-du-Saguenay are also notable highlights to look out for.

Days 14-15
Quebec City, Quebec

Founded by French explorer Samuel de Champlain in 1608 on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, Quebec City is one of the oldest European settlements in North America, widely considered to be one of the continent’s most beautiful cities. Its historic centre, Old Quebec, is a UNESCO World Heritage site which contains many of the city’s most attractive buildings, encircled by 17th-century fortified walls and characterised by a maze of atmospheric cobbled lanes. It’s built in two parts; an upper town, situated on a cliff punctuated by the grand, castle-like Fairmont le Château Frontenac, and a lower town, where the historic square, Place Royale, and many of the best shops and restaurants are found.

As you’ll be docking here overnight, you’ll have ample time to explore the city, perhaps on a guided walking tour, as well as the surrounding countryside, which harbours natural wonders such as Montmorency Falls, tumbling dramatically 83 metres from a clifftop into the St. Lawrence River – 30 metres higher than the Niagara Falls.

Day 16
Disembark cruise in Montreal, Quebec

This morning, you’ll arrive in Montreal, the largest city in the province of Quebec and the final destination of your Seabourn cruise. Upon disembarking Seabourn Sojourn, a private transfer will whisk you away to your charming boutique hotel in the heart of the Old Town where you’ll be based for the next two nights, just a stone’s throw from the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal.

Stay: Le Saint Sulpice or similar

Day 17
Montreal, Quebec

Today is free for you to explore Montreal entirely at your own pace. It’s a city shaped by a fascinating blend of tradition and modernity, as evidenced by its rich variety of architectural styles, ranging from the Old World charm and European-influenced architecture of its historic centre to soaring, ultra-modern steel and glass skyscrapers. A wander through the buzzing Old Port district is an ideal place to start, perhaps followed by a trip to Mount Royal Park, the heavily forested mountain that looms above the city, offering terrific views from the top.

Other thoroughly worthwhile attractions include the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (regarded as one of the best in North America), Jean-Talon Market and the Underground City – a vast pedestrian network of underground paths and tunnels connecting numerous shopping malls, office blocks and hotels beneath downtown Montreal, stretching over 33 kilometres in total.

Stay: Le Saint Sulpice or similar

Days 18-19
Return to UK

You’ll have some more time today to explore Montreal, ticking off some of the sights you might not have seen on the previous day, before an early evening transfer brings you to the airport in time for your overnight flight back to the UK.
