Following a traditional Rapa Nui greeting and a transfer to your hotel you’ll embark on a series of guided activities and excursions beginning on day two with a drive along the coast to see volcanic rock formations and the toppled moai at Ahu Vaihu, your first glimpse of those famous statues. Following a visit to the ancient quarry at Rano Raraku, which supplied the stone from which 95% of the island’s sculptures were carved, you’ll head to Ahu Tongariki, home to 15 restored moai, and spend time relaxing on the beach at Anekena. On your last full day you’ll explore the ceremonial village of Orongo and examine centuries-old petroglyph images en route to the caves at Ana Kai Tangata and the archaeological sites of Hanga Poukura and Puna Pau.
