Introduction
South America can be a difficult continent to navigate your way around. However, Argentina and especially Chile buck the trend and have some wonderful opportunities for self-drive holidays given the size and drama of each country.
In Argentina, set out from Buenos Aires to travel to the Lake District and towns such as Bariloche and San Martin, the mountainous landscape around Cordoba or the pleasant vineyards of Mendoza.
Chile is ideally set up for you to drive north to south or vice verse. Sadly it is impossible to travel the length of this extraordinarily shaped country as the road can't cross the ice fields north of Patagonia.
Nonetheless, there is some wonderful driving to be done, whether in the north around the Atacama Desert, further south, around Pucon, where you can explore the Lake District and volcanoes such as Villarica or even in Patagonia, where you can discover Puerto Natales and the magnificent Torres del Paine National Park.
Of course, because these self-drive itineraries are tailor-made, we can alter any element or set up a self-drive holiday anywhere in either country.
