Introduction
Makgadikgadi Pans National Park is an area dominated for much of the year by saltpans. However, when the rains come they bring about one of the most spectacular transformations in Africa. As the pans flood flamingos flock in their thousands, bringing a deluge of colour to this usually barren landscape.
In the wet season the park can offer good wildlife viewing, but the unpredictability of its rains makes it less popular with visitors. Regardless, the expansive saltpans of Makadikagadi are an awesome sight and caught at the right time this is one of the most beautiful and diverse places to visit in Botswana.
