Introduction
Compared to its neighbour, Pagan, the sleepy religious centre of Salay is relatively untouched by tourism.
Lying near the banks of the Irrawaddy, the area has an impressive selection of temple ruins, as well as a number of functioning Buddhist monasteries.
Although its temples don't rival the scale of those at Pagan, its fewer visitors and quieter nature make it an ideal place to savour the historic ruins.
