Sanur is a more attractive and upmarket alternative to the busy town of Kuta.

Running along a white-sand beach on the south-east coast, just 20 minutes from the international airport, it boasts a fine selection of beachfront restaurants and a number of good quality hotels.

Protected by a reef, the water is calm and shallow, making Sanur a firm favourite among families with young children. It's also the best departure point for dive trips to Nusa Lembongan, an unhurried island off the south-east coast.
