Introduction
The Taiwanese capital of Taipei has undergone something of a makeover over the past few decades. It's transformed from an ageing industrial centre to a modern, high-tech capital, punctuated by Buddhist temples, markets stalls and other traditional features, making it a pleasant city to stroll around.
The city's most striking landmark is Taipei 101, so named because it has 101 storeys, and whose eight main sections are reminiscent of pagodas and temples. It's also the perfect place from which to enjoy exceptional, panoramic views of the city.
