Havana is one of the Caribbean's most splendid capitals. Though many of its buildings are weathered and faded, the city is colourful to the last, with brightly painted Cadillacs rolling the streets and citrus-coloured murals decorating walls and shop fronts. Each corner reveals another touch of the intense history the city has grown through, each bar dances to the rhythms of salsa and the flow of Havana Club rum.

Habana Vieja, Havana's Old Town, is the core of the city and together with its fortifications is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you'll find the capital's grandest colonial mansions and palaces and a selection of its cultural institutions, including the Museum and National Palace of Fine Arts and the Museum of the Revolution. Here too is the Plaza de Armas, Havana's oldest square.

A tour of Havana is not complete without a night out on the town. The city reverberates with the intoxicating sounds of samba, rumba, son, conga and many other afro-beat driven tunes that last until the early hours. In fact, Havana is undoubtedly Cuba's best place to party.
