Introduction
Palenque offers an unmatched archeological adventure in the north-east of Chiapas.
Set in thick jungle five miles from town, Palenque's Temple of the Sun is strongly linked with the lost cities of Guatemala and forms part of one of the most important archeological sites in the state.
Located in the Tumbula Mountains it is here you will find the Temple of Inscriptions, whose hieroglyphs have contribute significant understanding of the ancient Maya.
The site is surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty, including the Misol-Ha Waterfall where visitors can swim beneath the 100-foot cascade of the falls.
Other sites of interest nearby are the Tonina archeological site, the Agua Azul waterfalls, and the Bonampak site with its impressive murals illustrating Mayan social organization.
