Introduction
Praia do Forte a beach resort on the Linha Verde - the ‘Green Line'. This scenic strip of coastline runs all the way from Salvador to the Sergipe state border in the north and is also sometimes known as the ‘Coconut Highway' on account of the many coconut plantations that line the mile upon mile of beautiful sandy shore. Praia do Forte is especially popular with the wealthy residents of Salvador, as a low-key getaway with a good selection of luxury hotels nearby.
The sea here is crystal, the snorkelling excellent and the view of fishing boats moored-up just offshore, rocking to the rhythm of the Atlantic waves, is a thoroughly soothing one. Praia do Forte beach is also an important turtle-nesting site and the town's turtle sanctuary is a highlight to any tailor made trip to the Linha Verde. Here too, can be explored a small stretch of Atlantic rainforest, which is home to many species of birds, capybaras and caimans.
