Introduction
Praia do Rosa in situated the southern reaches of Santa Catarina state, around 60 miles to the south of Florianópolis, and is one of the best places in Brazil to see migrating whales. Each year, between May and November, southern right whales leave the cold waters around Antarctica and head north to calve in the warmer seas off the Southern Brazilian coast. The Right Whale Institute is based here and local experts from the institute track these migrating beasts and also lead whale-watching boat trips - a real thrill and a highlight of a trip to Brazil's southern coast.
Praia do Rosa's bay curves like a perfect boomerang, a pristine beach that emerges from a shaded canopy of thick forest. As well as whale watching, the bay attracts surfers, swimmers and sunbathers. Of Santa Catarina states 150 beaches, Praia do Rosa's is easily one of the best.
