Introduction
Puerto Varas - or the ‘city of roses'- is regarded as one of the loveliest places to live in all of Chile. One reason for this is the small town's beautiful setting, overlooking Chile's second largest lake, Lake Llanquihue, and with views towards volcanic peaks whose reflection can be seen in the water on clear days.
Another draw is Puerto Varas' proximity to a number of adventure sports centres. Horse riding, trekking, rafting and fly-fishing can all be tried nearby, although it's also worth spending some time enjoying the gentle pleasures of Puerto Varas itself - of which walking to the hilltop Parque Philippi and visiting the Catholic Church, built by German Jesuits, are just two possibilities.
