Absalon Hotel, Copenhagen

Location

The Absalon Hotel offers terrific value considering its enviable location in the centre of Copenhagen’s fashionable Vesterbro district. The Central Station and the world-famous Tivoli Gardens are just a five-minute walk away, as is the Danish capital’s Meatpacking District, Kodbyen. Modelled on Manhattan’s Meatpacking District – with perhaps a touch of London’s Smithfield’s thrown in – the 1930s warehouses of Kodbyen have seen a huge influx of bars, galleries, clubs and restaurants in recent years, making it one of the trendiest parts of the city. The hotel also has bikes to rent for visiting sites a little further afield.

Accommodation 

Scandinavia is gaining a well-earned reputation for interior design and the rooms at the Absalon Hotel fit the current mode perfectly. All 161 rooms and suites are decorated with Designer’s Guild wallpapers, cushions and curtains, and follow one of three colour schemes: Grass (spring green with touches of fuchsia and black), Ocean (blue, silver and gold), and Berry (deep, plummy purples and further notes of silver). Two Junior Suites and all Superior Rooms are on the top floor, offering views across the rooftops of Copenhagen. Standard Rooms are below. All offer free Wi-Fi, 40-inch flatscreen TVs and the aforementioned designer touches.

Dining 

The continental breakfast buffet at the Absalon will set you up perfectly for a day’s sightseeing. You’ll also find an assortment of wines, beers, cocktails and snacks available in the beautifully decorated bar. Given the central location, the lack of a main restaurant is no hindrance. Copenhagen, after all, has more Michelin Star restaurants than any other city in Scandinavia, including arguably the world’s best, Noma.
