The CalaPonte sits amidst ancient olive trees close to the port of Polignnano a Mare, Puglia. The port is a lovely place to pass the time, lined with 17th century architecture before returning to the simple elegance of the hotel.
All is quiet and gentle here, in decidedly rural surroundings. The white buildings open onto sun-drenched patios. Rooms and suites are contemporary and hugely comfortable, with beechwood floors, leather sofas, four-poster beds and well-stocked bathrooms with rain showers and the fluffiest of bathrobes.
The two pools in the gardens are glorious, with plenty of sun loungers dotted around. The hotel has a private marina for bespoke boat trips and fishing expeditions, and on return, there’s a splendid spa to relax in. The restaurant has a terrace overlooking the main pool, ideas for light lunchtime snacks and evening cocktails before dinners based on fresh Puglian produce.
