Location
Camp Kipwe enjoys ranging vistas of sun-drenched Twyfelfontein Conservancy. A protected area famed for its 6,000 year old cave drawings, it’s the last word in remote serenity with wild elephants only a guided walk or drive away. The camp’s eco-friendly vibe extends to local attractions as the cave paintings’ freestanding reception centre, made exclusively of recycled and repurposed materials, can be dismantled and moved to avoid damage to the environment.
Accommodation
The lodge offers two types of accommodation – mini suites and standard rooms. Each standalone bungalow is carefully tucked into its natural surroundings; standard rooms incorporate red basalt rocks and indigenous mopane branches while the suites have large thatched roofs. The rooms all have accompanying wooden decks so you can watch the sun set over the valley from the comfort of your room. Suites come with satellite TV, laundry service, an en suite bathroom and a mini-bar. The standard rooms complete the lodge’s rustic charm with private en suite outdoor showers heated by wood-burning boilers.
Dining
The lodge’s restaurant offers a high-end dining experience in an intimate setting. The menu expertly navigates European favourites and Namibian delicacies alike. A particular delight is the Oryx, a gamey regional specialty that is grilled to perfection by the local chefs. Another highlight is the well-appointed lounge with chairs as easy-going as the atmosphere and splendid views of the valley. The perfect place to enjoy a sundowner.
Facilities
A reception, dining area and lounge form the camp’s central focus. Taking its design cues from the surrounding locale, Camp Kipwe is thoughtfully decorated with traditional art and is built with natural materials. You are well looked after as the camp only employs knowledgeable local staff with the assistant manager and head guide starting working at the lodge 13 years ago as builders and waiters. A key feature is the lodge’s swimming pool nestled in the rocks. It’s the perfect way to relax and refresh after a day’s wildlife spotting, hiking or a particularly taxing day in the lounge.
