Freycinet Lodge, Freycinet Peninsula

Location

Located within the Freycinet National Park, the lodge is nestled among a coastal forest between The Hazards mountain range and the picturesque Great Oyster Bay. The park’s excellent bushwalks are within touching distance or simply take a stroll to a selection of nearby beaches. From your cabin, visit the impossibly pristine Wineglas Bay, walk the Hazards beach circuit or point yourself in the direction of a mountain peak.

Accommodation

Freycinet Lodge’s sensitively designed timber cabins bring a sense of luxury to their natural setting. Surrounded by native vegetation, the cabins are linked together by raised timber boardwalks so as to minimise their impact on the environment. The accommodation comes in a variety of sizes but all cabins feature en suite bathrooms and private balconies. If it takes your fancy, you can upgrade to cabins with spa bathrooms or even double granite baths that look out into the bush.

Dining

Somewhat typically of Tasmanian lodge accommodation, you can choose between fine dining at the lodge’s restaurant or a more relaxed meal in its bistro. The Bay Restaurant’s panoramic views of Great Oyster Bay serve as a fitting backdrop to a menu that showcases regional produce. Seasonal local seafood is the star of the show while the hearty buffet breakfast is an easy favourite. In Richardson’s Bistro, you can enjoy tasty favourites complemented by a selection of Tasmanian wines and beers before heading to the Hazards Bar and Lounge to relax in front of the open fire.

Facilities

From the lodge, guests can choose from a host of nature-orientated activities, including whale watching and walks through forests populated by parrots, kookaburras and marsupials. For onsite recreation, there’s a tennis court and boules court. If you’d like to sample that age-old Aussie tradition, there’s a full set of barbecue facilities that are perfect for grilling locally sourced seafood or your catch of the day.
