City-break
This stylish city-centre hotel offers plenty of charm and character in the heart of Stockholm, just minutes from the city's many attractions. During your stay you may well meet the charismatic owner, who having travelled extensively, has acquired a vast and fascinating collection of art and furniture that now adorns the hotel. Comfy sofas give the bar and lounge an especially homely feel.
Location
Located on Luntmakargatan in a building dating back to 1898 and just a short walk from the old area of Gamla Stan, Hotel Hellsten oozes both history and character. The city centre's many restaurants - there are no less than 50 to choose from in the neighbouring ten blocks - are right on the doorstep as well as Stockholm's main shopping district. Stockholm's many museums and galleries are just a short distance away and for guests looking to venture further a field, there's a metro stop just around the corner.
Accommodation
Housed in a beautifully preserved 19th century building, each of Hotel Hellsten's 78 rooms offers a unique character and charm. Traditional furnishings have been blended with bold modern touches and colours. Additional touches such as porcelain stoves, stuccoes, mirrored doors and wooden wall panels all add to the unique style. Seven of the rooms have balconies and all feature flat screen television, telephone and free broadband access. En suite bathrooms all have showers while a selection also feature bathtubs as well. Each bathrooms has under-floor heating, , heated towel rails, hair dryer and telephone.
Dining
Hotel Hellsten has a cosy, glass-enclosed breakfast room, the perfect place to begin the day before heading out into the city. Although there's no restaurant at the hotel itself, the prime city centre location means that guests can find dining to suit all tastes and budgets just yards from the hotel's front door.
Hotel Hellsten does however have a wonderful bar, a natural focal point for the hotel where guests can relax over a bee, glass of wine or cocktail and admire the collection of African and Asian artifacts collected by the owner throughout his years of travel. Every Thursday throughout the year - except for July and August - the bar is transformed into one of the Stockholm's best jazz venues.
Facilities
Although small, the hotel does feature a small gym as well as a Jacuzzi and sauna, which are open to guests throughout the day.
