Location

Accommodation

Spread across buildings that range between the 17th and 16th centuries, there’s a certain characterful charm to the hotel’s multi-levelled layout. It’s something that the Santa Maria’s French furniture, lacquered wood panelling and antiques all showcase. However, an impeccable sense of style that unites it all – even the lift features a marble design and fire doors are hidden behind neoclassic detailing. While all rooms overlook internal courtyards and Florence’s historic terracotta tumble, upgrades add in views of the Santa Maria Novella Church, its homonymous piazza and even the city’s cathedral. The latter is framed by picture window in the Honeymoon Suite.

Dining

You’ll find the hotel’s bar on the ground floor, offering a wide selection of sweet and savoury snacks along with some more substantial fare. For the latter, Tuscan delicacies are offered alongside sandwich and salad favourites. It’s all predicated on fresh, high quality produce. We’ve also been reliably informed that there are plans to extend the bistro out onto the piazza for some extra sunshine. The breakfast is equally impressive, hosted in a spectacularly mirrored room whose Renaissance styling is nothing short of opulent. Here you’ll be treated to a continental and American buffet with a flexible kitchen able to accommodate any intolerances. 

Facilities

Heading to the basement, you’ll be greeted by a selection of immaculately preserved Roman ruins – perhaps the only one the world over to host an internet point. You’ll also find a fitness centre complete with the latest Technogym equipment, a Finnish sauna and a reading room – the perfect place to relax by the fin-de-siècle fireplace with a fine tea and coffee. For something particularly atmospheric, any of the bar’s offerings can be taken on the rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a cocktail with views over the piazza and church.
