As JW Marriott’s first offering in Europe, its Bucharest Grand Hotel has a lot to live up to. And, it certainly does, with multiple fine-dining restaurants, a superb spa and the largest rooms of any five-star hotel in the city. There’s also the small matter that it’s perfectly positioned opposite the world’s heaviest building and a true icon – the Palace of the Parliament.
Befitting its location, the JW Marriott’s façade is suitably imposing, opening onto a marble lobby. It sets the tone for a spread of luxury amenities, with the spa a particular highlight. Here, the usual steam room, pool and fitness centre are joined by superb massage treatments. Then, for further indulgence, the restaurants offer everything from sommelier-paired Italian dining to steakhouse classics. Wash it all down with something cool on the bar terrace.
The rooms are equally impressive, featuring feather-top beds, marble-accented bathrooms and oversized smart TVs. For some extra space, look to the suites and executive-level rooms. They come with private-lounge access, where you’ll be treated to everything from snacks and hors d’oeuvres to desserts and afternoon teas. The honour bar is another highlight, while shoppers will be impressed with the range of ultra-luxury boutiques.
