Location
Set alone atop a hill in central Puglia, Italy, Masseria Torre Maizza originally belonged to a line of defence that follows the peninsular coast, known as the finibus terrae. Today, the region is better known for its excellent wines, orchards and beaches, although medieval castles, historic centres and Romanic cathedrals still draw interest from visiting tourists. Alberobello's 16th century conical houses are a particular delight, along with the crypts and rock churches at Monopoli. And, from the nearby Savelletri fishing village, fishermen and monks still make the pilgrimage to the masseria’s chapel.
Accommodation
Surrounded by olive groves and often looking out to the sea, Masseria Torre Maizza's rooms are impossibly light and airy, thanks to their vaulted ceilings and whitewashed walls and Rocco Forte's signature contemporary style throughout. All furnishings and artwork are curated by designer Olga Polizzi, Deluxe Rooms add private garden and terrace areas, while the Deluxe Suites feature plunge pools with views over the olive groves and loungers for basking in the sun. On the top floor of the masseria's tower, the Torre Suite is by far the most impressive, with two bedrooms, a spacious lounge and bathroom, and a dining terrace overlooking the countryside down to the Adriatic coast.
Dining
Dining is at the centre of an authentic Italian experience, and the hotel's restaurants pay homage to this. Beneath the arches of a converted barn, Bougainvillea is a relaxed bar setting offering light meals and snacks alongside apertivos and hand-mixed cocktails. For a more substantial meal, Carosello's menu features pastas, fresh fish and local dishes served under the rustic beams of an original stable. Overlooking the hotel's lush gardens, this is a beautiful place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, lunch or dinner. Finally, if you're poolside for the day, escape the midday sun with a light salad or sandwich in the shade of the Pool Bar.
Facilities
As a historic, self-contained entity, guests are treated to a wide range of activities and facilities onsite. Whether it’s the golf course or an excursion further afield, there's plenty to keep you busy. If you'd prefer to relax, the Torre Maizza Spa is focused on wellness and rejuvenation, offering signature treatments and therapies designed to help you unwind. And don't forget you're in the heart of wine country, so tasting experiences are a must.
